In Singapore you can see people of different religion are living happily. They share a complete life without any problem as such. It can be seen that more than half of the Singapore’s population are the followers of Taoism and Buddhism. Statistically it can be seen that Chinese people are the largest ethnic group in Singapore. They are the Buddhists or Taoists and these are two religions that are carried from China. But later some of them converted to Christianity because of the influence of the Raffles.
In earlier days Malays were converted into Islam and after that they were called ‘Muslim’ in the religious term. Most of the Indians in Singapore are Hindus but in some cases it has been seen that they are Sikhs or Muslims.
According to the record twenty eight percent population in Singapore share Buddhism while Taoists are thirty one percent. In Singapore Buddhism was introduced by the early Chinese settlers. The three jewels of Buddhism namely Buddha, Dharma and Sangha are the main mantra and these are base upon which Buddhism is practiced. Mahayana sect is observed by most of the Buddhists in Singapore. This is a prominent doctrine of Buddhism. Theravada, Vajrayana and some other small schools are also there.
The eighteen percent of total population are Islams in Singapore while the largest proportion of the Muslims is the Malays. These are followed by the Indians.
Christianity covers almost ten percent. After the arrival of Raffles in Singapore, the Christian missionaries established at the place and within a year started spreading the religion.
Four percent population was covered by Hinduism. This is religion with many god and goddesses. The Vedas are considered as the holy texts but of course they are not used as a guidebook for one’s conduct in modern India.
